ALP is a small independent school providing education for children and young people with complex and profound learning difficulties, social and emotional, behavioural difficulties, challenging behaviours and mental health difficulties, from across both the city and county. ALP also provides an outreach provision for learners who find it difficult to enter school on a day to day basis.
ALP Leicester identified an area for improvement with the school in Relationships and Sex Education for their Secondary and Post-16 pupils.
ALP focussed their improvements in:
- Promoting the C-Card to our secondary and post-16 learners
- Increase the number of secondary and post-16 learners getting their Level 1 qualification in Sexual Health
- Increase learners awareness of clinics and facilities available to them
- Receiving Speakeasy training so that we could deliver this to parents and carers to assist with those awkward questions at home
- Reduce the number of teen pregnancies within school
Through excellent changes across the Whole School, such as: increasing the availability of training for school staff, focussed parents evening sessions on Sexual Health, providing resources for parents & carers, delivering 'Speak Easy' training to improve parent and carer confidence in talking about Sexual Health and increasing the number of pupils achieving L1 in Sexual Health - ALP demonstrated clear and tangible improvements in both understanding and awareness of positive Relationships and Sexual Health across the Whole School.
ALP Senior Leader Quote:
"The inclusion of the Healthy Schools agenda has vastly helped improve the health outcomes for our young people daily and in relation to outcomes within their EHCP's. The entire perspective of staff and learners has changed and continues to evolve with every new cohort of learners".
The Leicestershire Healthy Schools Programme are proud to award ALP Leicester with the very first Healthy Schools Plus Award in RSHE under the new Healthy Schools Plus 2021 format.
This is a fantastic achievement, well done to all involved at ALP!
